SUMMARY:Feeling Safe\, Capable\, and Connected: A Sensorimotor Approach to Dynamic Posture Control
DESCRIPTION:Live In-Person Course\n\nOur earliest developmental experiences\, including the sensorimotor and relational components\, feed the expression of posture and our quality of movement. These fundamental experiences not only contribute to the external\, observable aspects of posture\, but also one’s sense of self-competence in the development of the physical “me” in the field of gravity and in relationship to another. In some instances\, the combination of key sensorimotor and relational components do not align to support the unfolding of stability\, mobility\, and freedom of expression through movement. This lack of postural integrity can negatively impact the development of fine motor\, gross motor\, postural attention for higher-level learning\, and our ability to fully engage with the people and events around us. \nAs therapists\, we must train our eyes to recognize\, through key clinical observations\, when these early foundations for posture and movement are disrupted. Furthermore\, by understanding the unfolding of the developmental sequence and the key sensorimotor inputs therapists will be better equipped to design and implement tailored interventions necessary for the development of adaptive posture and physical expression of emotion. \nThis course will explore the developmental unfolding of posture\, starting with the dynamic merging of sensations with key primary movement patterns to form our early physical base through the later development of anti-gravity skill\, bilateral integration\, and organized actions of relating in time and space. A combination of lecture\, video examples\, and experiential labs will be included throughout the course to further participants’ understanding of the developmental sequence and sensorimotor components of postural development and the affective\, qualitative aspects of movement. \n\n \n Register Here! \n \nThis course is sponsored by an outside organization and all registrations are managed through their organization. You may register via the following Registration Form. Please contact Advanced Pediatric Therapies with any questions: 360-885-4684. \nVital Links does not manage registrations for this course. \n\n \nLocation\nVancouver\, Washington \nSchedule\nDay 1: Friday\, September 12\, 2025\nDay 2: Saturday\, September 13\, 2025 \nInstructors\nSheila M. Frick; OTR/L \nCourse Objectives\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nRecognize how posture is the byproduct of optimal sensory processing and the unfolding of key developmental movement patterns.\nIdentify three treatment strategies that support the release of defensive tension patterns and the regulation of physiological arousal.\nUnderstand how the development of anti-gravity postural control contributes to our perception of body in space as an essential foundation for the development of all higher-level motor\, perceptual\, cognitive\, and affect regulation.\nRecognize the overlap between postural development and affective expression.\nIdentify three structured and unstructured clinical observations that inform a clinically reasoned approach to treatment.

SUMMARY:Astronaut Training - A Sound Activated Vestibular-Visual Protocol - Live In-Person Course
DESCRIPTION:Live In-Person Course\nWithout clear information coming from the vestibular system\, sights and sounds in the environment do not make sense – they are only isolated pieces of information disconnected from each other and from the meaningful whole. It is integration of sensory information that holds the key for finding meaning in the world. This two-day course will explore the connections of the vestibular-visual-auditory triad and their subsequent impact on function. Additionally\, this course will provide participants with a precise template for intervention strategies\, including administration of Astronaut Training. \nWho Should Attend:\nOccupational therapists\, speech/language pathologists\, physical therapists\, educators\, human services professionals\, and other medical professionals. Graduating students or graduate students of the aforementioned fields are also welcome. \nCertification:\nParticipants will receive a certification in the Astronaut Training Protocol. This course provides participants with the necessary background information to immediately begin incorporating Astronaut Training into their programs. \nRegister\nThis course is sponsored by an outside organization and all registrations are managed through their organization. SUMMARY:Power Up for Participation: Ready\, Steady\, Go! – Live In-Person Course
DESCRIPTION:Live In-Person Course\n\nIncreased participation and meaningful engagement in daily life are vital treatment outcomes within occupational therapy and allied health professions. However\, from a developmental\, body-based\, sensory integrative approach\, prior to participation it is essential to organize the body for regulated engagement across all environments and tasks. \nThis two-day course will introduce participants to the clinical reasoning template of “Ready\, Steady\, Go” which blends theory\, assessment\, and treatment activities into one approach. Ready\, Steady\, Go serves as a guiding template to structure treatment from the basis of regulating one’s physiological arousal and organizing movement within time and space as a precursor to participation in all aspects of life. \nLecture content will convey the importance of breath\, emotional motor system\, embodied self-awareness\, and state regulation (“Ready”); working from the ground up to establish stable and dynamic postural control in conjunction with organization of the eyes and ears (“Steady”); and developing coordinated movement within three-dimensional space and as key foundations for accessing higher-level skills of self-monitoring and sustained attention (“Go”). \nTheoretical lectures will be supplemented by video examples and interactive treatment labs where participants will be introduced to assessment and treatment activities that correspond with each of the three components of the approach. This course will be appropriate for occupational therapists and other health professionals working in private practice\, school\, or home environments as discussions will include how to adapt principles for individuals or groups/classrooms. \nWho Should Attend:\nOccupational therapists\, speech/language pathologists\, physical therapists\, psychologists\, and other interested allied health providers. \n\n \n Register Here! \n \nThis course is sponsored by an outside organization and all registrations are managed through their organization. You may register by visiting their website: https://theramoves.com/course/powerup-for-participation/ \nVital Links does not manage registrations for this course. \n\n \nLocation\n410 Hungry Harbor Road\nValley Stream\, Long Island \nSchedule\nDay 1: Wednesday\, December 4\, 2024\, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM EST\nDay 2: Thursday\, December 5\, 2024\, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM EST \nLevel\nIntroductory \nInstructors\nSheila M. Frick; OTR/L \nTracy Bjorling; OTD\, OTR/L \nCourse Objectives\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify when an individual is not in a state of readiness to participate in the activity at hand.\nSelect at least three treatment activities appropriate to support steadiness.\nRecognize how “Ready\,” Steady\,” and “Go” activities may shift depending upon the individual in the moment and intended functional participation outcome.\nDiscuss and adapt “Ready\, Steady\, Go” principles to suit the needs of a classroom or individual family.

SUMMARY:Power Up for Participation: Ready\, Steady\, Go! – Live International Course
DESCRIPTION:Live International Course\n\nIncreased participation and meaningful engagement in daily life are vital treatment outcomes within occupational therapy and allied health professions. SUMMARY:Therapeutic Listening Workshop - India
DESCRIPTION:An Introduction & Beyond\nDiscounts Available!\nRs. 35000 per registrant for Groups of 5-9 registrants\nRs. 30000 per registrant for Groups of 10+ registrants \nListening is the function of the entire brain and goes well beyond stimulating the auditory system. It is a voluntary act. Active listening is dynamic and continually adapting. Listening requires the desire to communicate and the ability to focus the ear on certain sounds selected for discrimination and interpretation. An individual actively listens and directs attention to sounds in the environment with the whole body. \nThrough the dedicated work of Sensory Integration by Dr. Jean Ayres and many others\, we have learned the way in which we take in\, process and adapt to sensations within our internal and external environment and that it has a direct impact on functional skills and occupational performance. Just as the vestibular\, somatosensory and visual systems play significant roles in sensory integrative treatment\, the auditory system has widespread connections to the brain and entire body. Thus\, the use of auditory-based therapy tools may be used to support improved sensory processing and integration—ultimately enhancing function. \nThis three-day workshop presents an evidence-based protocol\, which combines a sound-based intervention with sensory integrative activities to create a comprehensive approach that is effective for diverse populations with sensory challenges. Introductory topics will be discussed\, moving to in-depth instruction of Advanced Therapeutic Listening® and the application of the Quickshift™ albums. \nWho Should Attend:\nOccupational therapists\, speech/language pathologists\, physical therapists\, psychologists\, physicians\, educators\, special educators\, physical educators\, human services professionals and parents. SUMMARY:Sensorimotor Approach to Arousal Regulation and Developmental Trauma - Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Special Discounts Available!\nILAIMH Members = $140 & Students = $50 \nThere is a growing understanding and accompanying clinical practice that addresses the connection between sensorimotor integration dysfunction and trauma. When an individual cannot adequately process and integrate sensory information and/or traumatic experiences\, the body’s arousal and self-regulatory mechanisms become altered thus impacting our ability to adequately cope with seemingly harmless day-to-day stressors. \nThis workshop will explore the connections between trauma\, sensory integrative difficulties\, arousal\, affect\, and self-regulation. Participants will learn how sound and movement are critical in the development of body based\, perceptual-motor\, and social-emotional foundations for feeling safe in the world and in relationship to another. Treatment labs will explore the basics of auditory and vestibular/somatosensory processing\, and their relationship to arousal\, attachment\, self-regulation\, and learning. Video and case presentations will bring key concepts and treatment strategies to life in this theoretically based\, yet practical course. \n\n \n Register Here! \n \n\nThis course is sponsored by Illinois Association for Infant Mental Health and all registrations are managed through their organization.
