SUMMARY:Astronaut Training: A Sound Activated Vestibular-Visual Protocol
DESCRIPTION:This course teaches a comprehensive sound activated\, vestibular visual treatment protocol. Guidelines for safe effective use for clients of all ages and diagnoses will be discussed.\nVestibular enhancement has always been central to sensory integration practice. However\, the importance of administering precise vestibular input that is integrated with specific sound and vision input is only beginning to be acknowledged. This workshop will expand the therapist’s skills via enhanced understanding of the developmental and neurological processes of the Vestibular-Auditory-Visual Triad. Understanding how these three systems work together with the body’s senses creates a foundation for achieving competency in applying specific intervention strategies\, including Astronaut Training: A Sound Activated Vestibular-Visual Protocol. \nDAY 1:\nSaturday\, January 30\, 2016\n9:00am – 5:05pm CST \nDAY 2:\nSunday\, January 31\, 2016\n9:00am – 5:05pm CST \nContinuing Education\nAOTA: Vital Links is approved by The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) as a provider of continuing education. This two-day workshop provides 12 contact hours or 1.2 AOTA CEUs. The assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content\, products\, or clinical procedures by AOTA. \nLevel: Introductory \nAOTA Classification Code: Client Factors\, Performance Skills\, & Intervention \nASHA: This course is offered for 1.25 ASHA CEUs\n(Introductory level\, Professional area) \nNOTES:\nWorkshop price includes Astronaut Training booklet. International shipping fee of $44.95 applies. \nThis is a live online workshop that you attend at your computer during the scheduled time. You must be present for the entire workshop. It will not be available as a recording. \nClass size is limited. If the class reaches capacity\, registration closes. Therefore\, please register early to guarantee enrollment. \nVital Links will send you an email one week before the workshop with details on accessing the course\, materials and any further instructions you may need. \n Download the Course Brochure and Registration Form

SUMMARY:Therapeutic Listening: Listening with the Whole Body
DESCRIPTION:Listening plays a vital role in the sensory integration process. In fact\, some believe that the auditory system is the ‘missing link’ in sensory integration modalities. Both research and clinical experience have shown that using sound-based interventions for clients with sensory processing difficulties can increase treatment effectiveness. \nIn this newly revised 2 day workshop\, you will learn to use Therapeutic Listening® modulated audio selections (available on CDs\, digital music players\, and some mobile devices) to create individualized\, home-based programs for clients. This workshop will provide a strong emphasis on practical application and explore the use of Therapeutic Listening within the context of multiple case studies. You will also learn how to implement Therapeutic Listening strategies in conjunction with postural\, respiratory\, and sensory activities. The course will take you through all of the steps–from assessment to outcomes–for creating complete Therapeutic Listening programs. Video case presentations will be used to illustrate points and show changes in individuals with listening and other sensory processing difficulties\, including Autism\, Cerebral Palsy\, apraxia\, anxiety\, and Down’s Syndrome. The online format of this workshop will consist of live video feed of the presenter\, and shared power point and video. Participants will be able to ask questions or make comments verbally via microphone (if your computer allows) or typed into a chat feature. This workshop will be especially meaningful for practitioners who have a background in sensory integration\, including therapists in schools\, hospitals\, and private clinics. Participants will gain the necessary background information to begin using Therapeutic Listening right away. \nSchedule:\nDAY 1:\nSunday\, January 17th\n8:30-9:00am (CST) Check-in and Webinar Orientation\n9:00-4:15pm (CST) Workshop \nDAY 2:\nMonday\, January 18th\n8:30-9:00am (CST) Check-in\n9:00-4:45pm (CST) Workshop (Quiz & Evaluation during final 30-minutes) \nPlease be aware that you will need to adjust the hours to your local timezone. \nInstructor:\nTracy Bjorling\, MS\, OTR \nContinuing Education:\nVital Links is an AOTA approved provider of continuing education. Participants will receive 12 contact hours or 1.2 AOTA CEUs for this workshop.** \nCourse Level: Introductory \nAOTA Classification Code: Client Factors\, Performance Skills\, & Intervention \nNOTES:\nThis is a LIVE online workshop that you attend at your computer during the scheduled time.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Building Blocks for Sensory Integration
DESCRIPTION:This one-day workshop provides therapists with an understanding of the developmental and neurophysiological links between sensory integration and the basic primary movement patterns (primitive and postural reflexes) that provide the foundation (or building blocks) for sensory modulation and integration. \nBeginning with support of the primitive reflexes\, we will explore the development of posture and its relationship to self-regulation along with visual and auditory function. This course will allow participants to use their clinical observations for the clients who are often difficult to test using standard measures. Video examples will highlight treatment strategies that can be implemented with and without therapy equipment\, making them appropriate for all clinical settings. \nA range of intervention strategies designed to support functional performance will be presented\, and workshop participants will leave with a systematic way to assess\, document and treat the movement challenges that arise from the lack of effective sensory motor integration. \nCourse Objectives\nUpon completion of this workshop\, you will: \n\nUnderstand the link between reflex integration\, postural development\, sensory modulation\, and behavioral challenges.\nBe able to evaluate primitive and postural reflex development\, and be able to recognize its impact on daily function.\nBe able to develop simple yet powerful strategies for integration across multiple environments.\n\nContinuing Education\n  \nVital Links is approved by The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) as a provider of continuing education. This workshop provides 6 contact hours or 0.6 AOTA CEUs. \nLevel: Introductory \nAOTA Classification Code: Client Factors\, Performance Skills\, & Intervention \nThe assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content\, products\, or clinical procedures by AOTA.
