SUMMARY:Embodied Sensation: Harnessing the Power of Interoception and Proprioception- Live w/ Recording
DESCRIPTION:Updated Course: Expanded Content for One-Day of Learning!\nRecording Access Available! \nProprioception and interoception are frequently discussed within the field of occupational therapy to describe one’s awareness of their body position relative to the world around them and internal signals. For individuals who experience difficulties with sensory modulation and sensory processing\, inadequate interoceptive and proprioceptive awareness may contribute to struggles with body awareness\, breath regulation\, adaptable states of arousal\, organized movement and praxis\, and regulation and awareness of homeostatic functions and affective emotion. Effective treatment strategies aim to modulate sensation\, and support proprioceptive and interoceptive balance within the context of meaningful occupational participation. \nDrawing from current science\, this course will explore the neurological and anatomical foundations for proprioception\, interoception\, and vestibular processing. Practical application and discussions will illuminate how these sensations play a key role in self-sensing (“minimal self”) and body mapping for enhanced body scheme\, as well as movement and breath as a means to support self-regulation. Therapists will leave this course with a comprehensive understanding of these key therapeutic concepts\, along with a variety of practical and precise therapeutic activities that can be implemented across environments. \nScroll down to Register\nLocation\nOnline with Recording Option* \nSchedule\nFull Agenda\nFriday\, April 1\, 2021\, 9:00am – 4:45pm Central Daylight Time (CST)\nCheck-in begins at 8:30am CDT\nTest begins at approx. 4:15pm CDT \nLive Webinar Registration Closes:\nFriday\, April 1st at 7:30am CDT \nRecording Registration Closes:\nMonday\, April 4th at 5:00pm CDT \nCan’t make it on April 1st? SUMMARY:Finding Safety and Stability: A Trauma-Informed Sensory Motor Approach - Live Webinar w/ Recording
DESCRIPTION:Take an Inside Look at the Course: Understanding the Overlap Between Trauma\, Sensory Integration\, and Regulation of Arousal\n \nAvailable as a Recording! \nTherapists and other professionals who work with individuals with sensory and developmental disorders (e.g. autism spectrum\, attention deficit\, learning disabilities) often encounter clients with difficulties related to developmental trauma. Traumatic events may be overt\, such as early loss of a primary caregiver; sexual\, physical or emotional abuse; or domestic\, community and school violence. Trauma may also be innocent\, such as early hospitalization and necessary lifesaving medical procedures in the neonatal intensive care unit. Exposure to adverse life experiences has been shown to increase the likelihood of social\, emotional and developmental delays. Furthermore\, children with developmental delays have a higher risk of being subjected to experiences involving physical\, emotional and sexual abuse. \nThere is a growing understanding\, and accompanying clinical practice that addresses the connection between sensory processing dysfunction and trauma. When an individual cannot adequately process sensory information or traumatic experiences\, the body’s natural defense mechanisms become heightened\, further impacting sensory processing disorder. \nThis live\, one-day\, online course will explore the connections between trauma\, sensory processing and sensory integrative difficulties. Participants will learn how sound and movement are critical in the development of body based\, perceptual motor\, and social emotional foundations for feeling safe in the world and in relationship to another. Treatment labs will explore the basics of auditory and vestibular/somatosensory processing\, and their relationship to arousal\, attachment\, self-regulation\, and learning. Video and case presentations will bring key concepts and treatment strategies to life in this theoretically-based\, yet practical course. \nRegistration includes the Therapy Ball Trio (S&H fees may apply^). \nTake an additional discount of $15 per participant for groups of 3 or more individuals enrolling simultaneously under the same web-order. \nScroll down to Register\nLocation\nOnline* \nSchedule\nFull Agenda\nFriday\, May 6\, 2022\, 9:00am – 4:45pm Central Daylight Time\nCheck-in begins at 8:30am CDT\nTest begins at approx. 4:15pm CDT \nLive Webinar Registration Closes:\nFriday\, May 6th at 6:30am CDT \nRecording Registration Closes:\nMonday\, May 9th at 5:00pm CDT \nCan’t make it on May 6th? SUMMARY:Exploring Therapeutic Listening in Practice: A Mentorship Series
DESCRIPTION:The Listening with the Whole Body Course is Just the Beginning.\nJoin the Vital Links Team for the evolution of Therapeutic Listening with the upcoming small group Mentorship series. In this video\, Sheila and Tracy share the background regarding the aim of this series and the goal of partnering with the Vital Links community to support the implementation of Therapeutic Listening among practitioners. We hope you can join us! \n \nCourse Description\nFormalized mentorship opportunities provide a platform for practicing therapists to expand their skills\, participate in rich discussions\, and enhance their clinical reasoning process to ultimately support professional growth and development. This Therapeutic Listening® mentorship series will explore the use and clinical applications of all the Therapeutic Listening libraries among participants who have previously completed the ‘Listening with the Whole Body’ training course. \nParticipants will need to submit one case\, over the course of the series\, where Therapeutic Listening has been utilized as part of a larger treatment protocol. Participants will be encouraged to utilize a provided case presentation template (including initial assessment findings\, key insight gained from the Functional Listening Questionnaire and caregiver/client interview\, and individualized music progressions) to share their own cases and accompanying questions related to the individualized implementation of Therapeutic Listening with their clients. \nTo support the translation of research into practice\, participants will also examine the existing research on Therapeutic Listening and analyze how this information may influence future clinical use of this therapeutic tool. Each session\, instructors will provide adjunct lectures and clinical case examples on topics related to the successful implementation of Therapeutic Listening and expanding clinical reasoning skills\, including case-study examples of how different clinical pictures benefit from different Therapeutic Listening progressions and unique elements of music; identifying and combining complementary therapeutic treatments with Therapeutic Listening; and the importance of understanding state and arousal regulation when matching music. By the end of this interactive series\, instructors aim to expand and broaden therapists’ use and understanding of Therapeutic Listening to enrich their own clinical practice. \n*This is a small group learning experience\, seats are limited\, and live course attendance is expected. While all participants are required to submit one case during the series\, all cases may not be presented within the live mentorship group.   \nParticipants are required to have taken at least the ‘Listening with the Whole Body’ course prior to attending the mentorship series. However\, as the case examples are not limited to only the modulated music\, completion of the training courses pertaining to the Quickshifts\, Spatially Enhanced\, and Fine-Tuning selections are recommended.  \nScroll down to Register\n\nFree Mentorship Series Q&A\nInterested in registering for the course\, but want to learn more first?\nLive Webinar with Recording Access\nWednesday\, September 7\n12:00pm CDT \nJoin our open discussion to learn more about the benefits of formal mentorship and how it can impact your clinical practice. To attend the Q&A session\, register for the free session here. \nDuring this Q&A\, Sheila and Tracy will provide insight on: \n– What topics will be discussed in the mentorship series\n– Participant case submission process & how cases will be used to support interactive learning\n– How mentorship can foster growth & individualized implementation of Therapeutic Listening within clinical practice\n\nIf you can’t attend live\, submit your questions in advance to info@vitallinks.net to be included in the discussion and view the recording! \n*The recording will be available on the Vital Links blog within two business days after the conclusion of the Q&A session. \nLocation\nOnline* \nSchedule\nFull Agenda\nDay 1: Monday\, September 12\, 2022\, 5:00pm – 6:30pm Central DAYLIGHT Time \nDay 2: Monday\, September 19\, 2022\, 5:00pm – 6:30pm CDT \nDay 3: Monday\, September 26\, 2022\, 5:00pm – 6:30pm CDT \nDay 4: Monday\, October 3\, 2022\, 5:00pm – 6:30pm CDT \nDay 5: Monday\, October 10\, 2022\, 5:00pm – 6:30pm CDT\n*Check-in begins at 4:45pm CDT for all days  \n  \nLevel\nIntermediate \nInstructor\nSheila M.
\nScroll down to Register\nLocation\nOnline with Recording Option* \nSchedule\nFull Agenda\nFriday\, September 30\, 2022\, 9:00am – 4:45pm Central Daylight Time (CDT)\nCheck-in begins at 8:30am CDT\nTest begins at approx. 4:15pm CDT \nLive Webinar Registration Closes:\nFriday\, September 30th at 7:30am CDT \nRecording Registration Closes:\nMonday\, October 3rd at 5:00pm CDT \nCan’t make it on September 30th?
SUMMARY:Building Blocks for Sensory Integration - International Online Course
DESCRIPTION:International Online Course\nCourse Taught in English with Simultaneous Translation into Spanish\nThis three-day\, experiential course provides therapists with an in-depth understanding of the developmental and neuro-physiological links between sensory integration and the basic primary movement patterns that provide the foundation (or building blocks) for sensory modulation and integration. \nBeginning with support of the primitive reflexes\, we will explore the development of posture and its relationship to gross and fine motor skills along with visual and auditory function. This course will allow participants to fine tune their clinical observation skills for the clients who are often difficult to test using standard measures. \nHands-on demonstrations\, movement labs\, and video examples will highlight treatment strategies that can be implemented with and without therapy equipment\, making them appropriate for all clinical settings. A range of intervention strategies designed to support functional performance will be presented\, and attendees will leave with a systematic way to assess\, document and treat the movement challenges that arise from the lack of effective sensory motor integration. \n\n \n Register Here! \n \n\nThis course is sponsored by Equipo en Vuelo and all registrations are managed through their organization. You may register by completing the online course Registration Form. Vital Links does not manage registrations for this course.
