SUMMARY:Listening and Beyond - a Therapeutic Listening Refresher
DESCRIPTION:Do you feel out of practice with your Therapeutic Listening clinical treatment? Seeking to learn more about new Therapeutic Listening tools? Have you emerged as your clinic’s expert in Therapeutic Listening and are now aiming to support the growth of others? In this one-day\, interactive online course\, you will learn how to augment your treatment skills\, as well as\, mentor others in the use of Therapeutic Listening. Together we will explore the integration of all the Therapeutic Listening libraries of albums\, including Modulated\, Fine Tuning\, Spatially Enhanced and Quickshifts to create a comprehensive and customized progression; and when necessary\, a follow-up boost progression. This experience will allow you to further refine your skills in matching music to specifically address each of your clients’ unique clinical picture. \nExplore how to support the enhancement of both vestibular and proprioceptive processing through the power of rhythm; and learn to recognize how to match rhythms to specific clinical presentations. Collaborative case studies will provide an opportunity to develop and discuss best practices\, further enhancing your ability to discuss clinical reasoning behind music selections with other professionals. This rationale will be used to inform goal-setting and documentation related to the use of Therapeutic Listening for clinical-based and practice-based research purposes. SUMMARY:Trauma Informed Approach to Sensory Processing Disorder and Arousal Regulation
DESCRIPTION:Save nearly $100\nWhen you register for both this course &\nthe May 18th Quickshifts webinar\nThere is a growing understanding\, and accompanying clinical practice that addresses the connection between sensory processing dysfunction and trauma. When an individual cannot adequately process sensory information or traumatic experiences\, the body’s natural defense mechanisms become heightened\, further impacting sensory processing disorder. This live\, one-day online course will explore the connections between trauma\, sensory processing and sensory integrative difficulties. We will also provide a brief overview of the tension reducing technique\, known as TRE®\, as a means of demonstrating how the body retains stress in core muscular tension patterns. Further\, we will examine how the addition of TRE® to a sensory integrative and developmental frame has subsequently informed new thinking around trauma\, sensory modulation and sensory integration. Video and case presentations will bring key concepts and treatment strategies to life in this theoretically based\, yet practical course. \nRegistration includes a Gertie Ball\, a Power Up Ball and a Pinky Ball. \nTake an additional discount of $20 per participant for groups of 3 or more individuals enrolling simultaneously. SUMMARY:Posture and Movement - How Does Sensory Integration Fit In?
DESCRIPTION:This webinar was designed to introduce clinicians to the Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) problem-solving process\, therapeutic handling\, and clinical decision-making process when treating children that display motor and sensory problems within a treatment session. Improving the clinician’s perception regarding the interrelation between the sensory systems\, neuromuscular systems\, and posture and movement (multi-system) will be emphasized. \nThrough video demonstration the participant will recognize multi/single-system integrities and impairments related to functional activities and participation. Identification of neuromuscular and sensory system impairments will be highlighted\, improving the clinician’s observational skills to determine treatment strategies related to the child’s functional outcome. NDT handling strategies addressing both the sensory and neuromuscular impairments simultaneously will be demonstrated via video. \nDiscussion of the clinical decision-making process during a single session will allow the participant to appreciate and acknowledge an integrated approach to children with sensorimotor dysfunction. \nTake an additional discount of $20 per participant for groups of 3 or more individuals enrolling simultaneously. Discount applied at checkout. Enrollment Brochure\nLocation\nOnline* \nSchedule\nFull Agenda\nFriday\, June16\, 2017\, 9:00am – 5:00pm CDT\nCheck-in begins at 8:30am CDT on day one. \nLevel\nIntroductory \nInstructor\nGail Ritchie; OTR/L\, C/NDT \nCourse Objectives\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the NDT problem-solving process.\nIdentify the multi and single system impairments affecting single session functional outcomes.\nUnderstand the relationship between the neuromuscular and sensory systems related to functional activities and participation.\nIdentify and discuss treatment strategies that simultaneously address the neuromuscular and sensory impairments.\n\n\nScroll to the bottom of the page to Register.\n\n \n Continuing Ed \n \n \nVital Links is an AOTA approved provider of continuing education. SUMMARY:Swings are Not Just for Swinging
DESCRIPTION:Sheila Frick\, OTR/L and Gail Ritchie\, OTR/L\, C/NDT join together for a NEW and innovative online workshop. Sheila and Gail will highlight the power in merging precise activation of the postural system with the sensory systems. They will introduce not only key concepts related to postural alignment and crucial sensory systems\, but how to effectively blend this knowledge into practical\, treatment oriented strategies using familiar clinical equipment: gym balls\, scooter boards\, and a variety of swings. \nThis course will provide a new appreciation and understanding for the interaction of the vestibular-visual-auditory triad and the somatosensory system in supporting postural control and alignment with your clients. Similarly\, clinicians will discuss when clients are unable to achieve postural alignment how integration of the sensory systems may be impacted. Through a variety of in-clinic video demonstrations using movement equipment\, participants will recognize how to use NDT handling skills to improve alignment and postural activation as a preparatory strategy for precise activation of the sensory systems.  Additionally\, video examples will be used to illustrate handling strategies necessary to gain postural alignment and activation\, and stimulate specific sensory input on a variety of swings. \n  \nTake an additional discount of $20 per participant for groups of 3 or more individuals enrolling simultaneously. SUMMARY:Core Connections - Exploring the Core's Developmental Roots
DESCRIPTION:Core Concepts in Action Book \nThis live\, online course will provide therapists with a clear description of musculoskeletal make-up of the “core” and will cover the research-based neurophysiological rationale for evaluating core development and function in individuals with sensory processing difficulties. Core function will be explored from its developmental roots in the unfolding of the primary movement patterns (innate reflex development). Two key patterns (Moro and Tonic Labyrinthine) and their connections to core development and self-regulation will be discussed. A specific play-based observation tool that identifies core movement challenges and assists in prioritizing treatment strategies will be presented and explored through movement labs. Along with assessment\, a variety of hands-on treatment strategies will be demonstrated through interactive labs. Video case presentation will be used to show practical clinical applications. \nReceive the Gertie Ball and Power Up Ball for the special rate of $25 when you add the Therapy Ball Bundle to your course registration. \nTake an additional discount of $20 per participant for groups of 3 or more individuals enrolling simultaneously.
