SUMMARY:From Eyesight to Insight - Visual and Vestibular Assessment and Treatment - Vital Links Now
DESCRIPTION:In this introductory video\, Dr. Carl Hillier\, O.D.\, FCOVD shares the importance of practitioners understanding the crucial connections between the vestibular and visual systems\, the benefits of collaboration between occupational therapists and developmental optometrists\, and highlights several key topics of interest discussed within the course!\n\n \nMary Kawar\, M.S.\, OT/L shares with Sheila Frick how partnering with a developmental optometrist supported her work as a occupational therapist and discusses the multifaceted contributions of the vestibular system.\nThe Vision Kit – a toolkit utilized by Dr. Hillier & Mary Kawar \nThe development of higher-level performance skills\, including reading\, writing\, and receptive and expressive language\, is dependent upon a strong sensorimotor foundation. For many children unidentified difficulties with both the visual and vestibular systems can impact optimal performance. Participants will learn directly from an occupational therapist and developmental optometrist how to capture the subtleties of visual-vestibular dysfunction\, thus enhancing participants’ ability to optimize treatment planning. \nVital Links & Vital Sounds have created a Vision Kit to compliment this course. The instructors will refer to and discuss the items included in the Vision Kit throughout the course. Though not required to attend the course\, the items included in this kit will aid in assessing a person’s vision and will prove beneficial when implementing strategies learned during the course into your own clinical practice. You can purchase the Eyesight to Insight Vision Kit from Vital Sounds as a companion to the information taught course for the rate of $89 (S&H fees apply). \n\n\n \n Secure Your Spot — Register Now\n \n \n\nLocation\nVital Links Now On-Demand: Three-Week Recording Viewing Window  \nSchedule\n\n \n Full Agenda\n \n \nLive course recorded on: September 23 & 24\, 2022\, 9:00am — 4:45pm CDT \nView the Course on Your Own Time! SUMMARY:Exploring Therapeutic Listening in Practice: A Mentorship Series
DESCRIPTION:The Listening with the Whole Body Course is Just the Beginning.\nJoin the Vital Links Team for the evolution of Therapeutic Listening with the upcoming 5-week small group Mentorship series. In this video\, Sheila and Tracy share the background regarding the aim of this series and the goal of partnering with the Vital Links community to support the implementation of Therapeutic Listening among practitioners. We hope you can join us! \n \nCourse Description\nFormalized mentorship opportunities provide a platform for practicing therapists to expand their skills\, participate in rich discussions\, and enhance their clinical reasoning process to ultimately support professional growth and development. This 5-week Therapeutic Listening® mentorship series will explore the use and clinical applications of all the Therapeutic Listening libraries among participants who have previously completed the ‘Listening with the Whole Body’ training course. \nParticipants will need to submit one case\, over the course of the series\, where Therapeutic Listening has been utilized as part of a larger treatment protocol. Participants will be encouraged to utilize a provided case presentation template (including initial assessment findings\, key insight gained from the Functional Listening Questionnaire and caregiver/client interview\, and individualized music progressions) to share their own cases and accompanying questions related to the individualized implementation of Therapeutic Listening with their clients. \nTo support the translation of research into practice\, participants will also examine the existing research on Therapeutic Listening and analyze how this information may influence future clinical use of this therapeutic tool. Each session\, instructors will provide adjunct lectures and clinical case examples on topics related to the successful implementation of Therapeutic Listening and expanding clinical reasoning skills\, including case-study examples of how different clinical pictures benefit from different Therapeutic Listening progressions and unique elements of music; identifying and combining complementary therapeutic treatments with Therapeutic Listening; and the importance of understanding state and arousal regulation when matching music. By the end of this interactive series\, instructors aim to expand and broaden therapists’ use and understanding of Therapeutic Listening to enrich their own clinical practice. \n*This is a small group learning experience\, seats are limited\, and live course attendance is expected. While all participants are required to submit one case during the series\, all cases may not be presented within the live mentorship group.   \nParticipants are required to have taken at least the ‘Listening with the Whole Body’ course prior to attending the mentorship series. However\, as the case examples are not limited to only the modulated music\, completion of the training courses pertaining to the Quickshifts\, Spatially Enhanced\, and Fine-Tuning selections are recommended.  \nScroll down to Register\nLocation\nOnline* \nSchedule\n\n \n Full Agenda\n \n \nDay 1: Tuesday\, November 7\, 2023\, 6:00 – 7:30pm Central STANDARD Time (CST) \nDay 2: Tuesday\, November 14\, 2023\, 6:00 – 7:30pm CST \nDay 3: Tuesday\, November 21\, 2023\, 6:00 – 7:30pm CST \nDay 4: Tuesday\, November 28\, 2023\, 6:00 – 7:30pm CST \nDay 5: Tuesday\, December 5\, 2023\, 6:00 – 7:30pm CST \n*Check-in begins at 5:45pm CST for all days  \n  \nLevel\nIntermediate \nInstructors\nSheila M.
