SUMMARY:Power and Precision with Comprehensive Vestibular and Proprioceptive Activation
DESCRIPTION:This course offers you the opportunity to enhance your understanding of the vestibular-proprioceptive systems and gain a fresh perspective on treatment activities for your clinical practice. Join Mary Kawar and Sheila Frick as they provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the role of the vestibular and proprioceptive systems in everyday life\, and how participation is ultimately impacted when the functioning of these systems is compromised. Furthermore\, participants will examine the relationship of the vestibular system\, via links to the autonomic nervous system\, to sensory modulation and emotional regulation. In the context of clinical case examples\, participants will gain an understanding of how to precisely analyze\, adapt and apply powerful treatment activities proven to optimize therapeutic objectives and outcomes for clients with diverse functional limitations in a variety of treatment settings (clinic\, school\, and home). Innovative video examples will demonstrate new ways of treating and progressing treatment activities for your clients. This course is open to all therapists interested in augmenting and expanding their understanding of the vestibular-proprioceptive systems. \nLocation\nOnline \nSchedule\n\n \n Full Agenda\n \n \nSaturday\, September 17\, 2016\, 8:30am – 4:30pm CDT \n**Note: if enrolling after 5:00pm CDT on 9/16/16\, webinar access information\nwill be provided after 8:00am CDT on 9/17/16. SUMMARY:Building Blocks for Sensory Integration
DESCRIPTION:This two-day\, experiential course provides therapists with an in-depth understanding of the developmental and neurophysiological links between sensory integration and the basic primary movement patterns that provide the foundation (or building blocks) for sensory modulation and integration. Beginning with support of the primitive reflexes\, we will explore the development of posture and its relationship to gross and fine motor skills along with visual and auditory function. Hands-on demonstrations\, movement labs\, and video examples will highlight treatment strategies that can be implemented with and without therapy equipment\, making them appropriate for all clinical settings. \n \n Enrollment Brochure\n \n \nLocation\nEsther Short Building\nFirst Floor – Community Room\n610 Esther Street\nVancouver\, WA 98660 \n(Venue Change: Course moved from Portland\, OR to Vancouver\, WA) \nSchedule\n\n \n Full Agenda\n \n \nDay 1: Saturday\, October 1\, 2016\, 8:15am – 4:30pm PDT\nDay 2: Sunday\, October 2\, 2016\, 8:15am – 4:30pm PDT \nLevel\nIntroductory \nCourse Objectives\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the link between reflex integration\, postural development\, sensory modulation\, and behavioral challenges.\nEvaluate primitive and postural reflex development\, and identify its impact on daily function.\nDesign simple yet powerful strategies for integration across multiple environments.\n\nScroll to the bottom of the page to Register.\n\n\n\n\n \n Continuing Ed \n \n \nVital Links is an AOTA approved provider of continuing education. SUMMARY:Core Connections - Exploring the Core's Developmental Roots
DESCRIPTION:Early Bird Offer!\nEnroll by September 19\, 2016\n$465 \nThis course will provide therapists with a clear description of musculoskeletal make-up of the “core” and will cover the research-based neurophysiological rationale for evaluating core development and function in individuals with sensory processing difficulties. Core function will be explored from its developmental roots in the unfolding of the primary movement patterns (innate reflex development). Two key patterns (Moro and Tonic Labyrinthine) and their connections to core development and self-regulation will be discussed. A specific play-based observation tool that identifies core movement challenges and assists in prioritizing treatment strategies will be presented and explored through movement labs. Along with assessment\, a variety of hands-on treatment strategies will be demonstrated through interactive labs. Video case presentation will be used to show practical clinical applications. \n \n Enrollment Brochure\n \n \nLocation\nConnecticut Children’s Medical Center\n282 Washington Street\nHartford\, CT 06106 \nSchedule\n\n \n Full Agenda\n \n \nDay 1: Saturday\, October 15\, 2016\, 8:30am – 4:30pm EDT\nDay 2: Sunday\, October 16\, 2016\, 8:30am – 4:30pm EDT \nLevel\nIntroductory \nCourse Objectives\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the anatomical components of the inner and outer core.\nDiscuss the significance of vestibular visual and auditory input for core development.\nDemonstrate three strategies that activate inner core for the purpose of stability and self-regulation.\nDiscuss the importance of complete expression and integration of the Moro and Tonic Labyrinthine reflex for core development and self-regulation.\nDiscuss the importance of respiratory patterns and their relationship to core activation.\n\n\nScroll to the bottom of the page to Register.\n\n \n Continuing Ed \n \n \nVital Links is an AOTA approved provider of continuing education.
