SUMMARY:Posture and Movement - How Does Sensory Integration Fit In?
DESCRIPTION:This webinar was designed to introduce clinicians to the Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) problem-solving process\, therapeutic handling\, and clinical decision-making process when treating children that display motor and sensory problems within a treatment session. Improving the clinician’s perception regarding the interrelation between the sensory systems\, neuromuscular systems\, and posture and movement (multi-system) will be emphasized. \nThrough video demonstration the participant will recognize multi/single-system integrities and impairments related to functional activities and participation. Identification of neuromuscular and sensory system impairments will be highlighted\, improving the clinician’s observational skills to determine treatment strategies related to the child’s functional outcome. DESCRIPTION:This 2-day webinar provides a practical opportunity for participants to interact with a sensory integrative occupational therapist and a developmental optometrist as they collaborate on the goal of facilitating optimum performance in children with movement and vision issues. Many children have unidentified visual and vestibular challenges which interfere with the development of physical\, emotional\, and cognitive skills including receptive and expressive language\, reading\, and writing. Speakers will reveal and clarify some of the mysteries of previously ambiguous performance issues in childhood. Participants will develop a broader net for capturing the subtleties of visual-vestibular behavior by gaining insight into underlying causes. \nLecture information and video demonstrations will provide ample opportunity for participants to learn how to administer a vision screening examination. Both research and clinical experience have shown that using sound-based interventions for clients with sensory processing difficulties can increase treatment effectiveness. \nIn this newly revised 2 day workshop\, you will learn to use Therapeutic Listening® modulated audio selections (available on CDs\, digital music players\, and some mobile devices) to create individualized\, home-based programs for clients. This workshop will provide a strong emphasis on practical application and explore the use of Therapeutic Listening within the context of multiple case studies. You will also learn how to implement Therapeutic Listening strategies in conjunction with postural\, respiratory\, and sensory activities. The course will take you through all of the steps–from assessment to outcomes–for creating complete Therapeutic Listening programs. Video case presentations will be used to illustrate points and show changes in individuals with listening and other sensory processing difficulties\, including Autism\, Cerebral Palsy\, apraxia\, anxiety\, and Down’s Syndrome. The online format of this workshop will consist of live video feed of the presenter\, and shared power point and video. SUMMARY:Introduction to Building Blocks for Sensory Integration
DESCRIPTION:This one-day workshop provides therapists with an understanding of the developmental and neurophysiological links between sensory integration and the basic primary movement patterns (primitive and postural reflexes) that provide the foundation (or building blocks) for sensory modulation and integration. \nBeginning with support of the primitive reflexes\, we will explore the development of posture and its relationship to self-regulation along with visual and auditory function. This course will allow participants to use their clinical observations for the clients who are often difficult to test using standard measures.
