In this introductory video, Dr. Carl Hillier, O.D., FCOVD shares the importance of practitioners understanding the crucial connections between the vestibular and visual systems and why conducting a visual screening is an important component of a clinical assessment.
Mary Kawar, M.S., OT/L shares with Sheila Frick how partnering with a developmental optometrist supported her work as a occupational therapist and discusses the multifaceted contributions of the vestibular system.
The development of higher-level performance skills, including reading, writing, and receptive and expressive language, is dependent upon a strong sensorimotor foundation. For many children unidentified difficulties with both the visual and vestibular systems can impact optimal performance. Participants will learn directly from an occupational therapist and developmental optometrist how to capture the subtleties of visual-vestibular dysfunction, thus enhancing participants’ ability to optimize treatment planning.
